Cleveland councilman pushes for school bus cameras to catch drivers who illegally pass stopped buses

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland Councilman Kevin Conwell is pushing to install new cameras on Cleveland school buses so that police can catch and fine motorists who fail to stop for the buses’ flashing red lights.

The cameras would be installed on the stop signs that extend from school buses when they are picking up and dropping off kids. Conwell said the idea is to deter motorists from driving around stopped school buses, which is against Ohio law and endangers children as they try to cross the street.
