CLEVELAND — A longstanding college and career readiness program serving students across Ohio is facing a sudden and painful shutdown, following nearly $800,000 in lost federal funding.
College Now Greater Cleveland confirmed the cuts have led to the termination of its AmeriCorps College and Career Guides Program, a service that placed guides primarily in middle and high schools to help students explore college and career pathways. Thirty-three AmeriCorps members across the state were let go as a result.
“It’s approximately an $800,000 grant we receive from our state commission that we are not anticipating we’ll get next year,” said Dr. Michele Scott Taylor, CEO of College Now Greater Cleveland. “We’re still trying to process and figure out what we can do to fill the gap and meet the needs of our community.”…
