This Mother’s Day, we revived an old tradition – and remembered why it mattered: Leslie Kouba

CLEVELAND, Ohio – It’s Mother’s Day weekend. Brunches, lunches and breakfasts in bed. Potted plants and bouquets. Candy and cards. And jewelry – lots of jewelry. The trappings of the commemorative day have become traditions.

Since 2007, money spent on Mom has more than doubled, and in 2024, Americans planned to spend $33.5 billion. And it’s not just us – almost 80 countries celebrate moms on the second Sunday in May.

When it comes to gift giving, I believe in asking for what one wants, if such a desire exists. What I wanted this year, like most recent years, was time. Time with the four people I birthed. Three of them have children, so my daughter and daughters-in-law take precedence, as they should. So, my Mum’s Day happens on a different weekend…
