Lorain man shot while waiting for Uber passenger

LORAIN — Tommie Lurry was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Lorain police responded to the 2200 block of Leavitt Road for a shots-fired call shortly before 11 p.m. May 28. There, at Jay’s Mini Mart, they found Lurry, 37, hunched over at the entrance of the store and bystanders providing aid for gunshot wounds to his left bicep and chest.

The Lorain man had been waiting for his Uber passenger — a woman and her children — when he dozed off at Leavitt Homes. Sitting in his Jeep Cherokee, the window down, he remembered he woke up, sat up and saw a man walk toward the vehicle…
