West Side Market’s Wiencek Meats continues century-long family legacy

CLEVELAND, Ohio – For Jeremiah Wiencek, selling meat at the West Side Market goes beyond his Wiencek’s Meats business; it’s a family legacy spanning more than a century. The names on the sign have changed over the years as different family members operated businesses, but the connections run deep.

The current market hall opened at the end of 1912. Wiencek’s great grandfather Robert Jacob Stumpf opened a stand in 1913. Stumpf specialized in German sausage and smoked meats.

Generations of the family operated Stumpf Meats, Kitchenmade Meats, Apple-Cured Meat and more. Generations of shoppers bought bacon, seasonal turkeys and more from Wiencek’s family…
