Former East Cleveland deputy clerk embezzled $10,000 in eviction fees, feds say

CLEVELAND, Ohio— A former East Cleveland Municipal Court employee is accused of embezzling more than $10,000 from the court by pocketing eviction fees, according to federal prosecutors.

Orlando Chappell, who worked as a deputy clerk, “frequently” pocketed the fees, totaling $5,280 in 2020 and $5,290 in 2021, according to prosecutors.
