WASHINGTON, D. C. – Nearly 80 years after the end of World War II, U.S. Army 2nd Lt. William B. Bucey is finally coming home to Cleveland.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced Tuesday that Bucey, who died as a Japanese prisoner of war during World War II, was officially accounted for on March 3, 2025. He will be laid to rest in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, in August.
Bucey, 29, served with the 121st Infantry Regiment (Philippine Scout), 8th Infantry Division, during the U.S. campaign in the Philippines, DPAA said. After the surrender of the Bataan Peninsula on April 9, 1942, he was captured by Japanese forces and forced to endure the brutal Bataan Death March.
