Florida Man on 5,500-Mile Pontoon Journey Stops in Cleveland to Support Families Receiving Lifesaving Care

CLEVELAND, OH – Darren Hayes of Florida has embarked on a 5,500-mile journey around The Great Loop on a pontoon boat, aiming to raise national awareness and support for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Known as the Makin Wake movement, Hayes’ expedition reached Cleveland on Thursday, July 17, marking day 35 of his four-month trip.

“This isn’t about boating — it’s about hope,” Hayes said. “Every mile is for the families going through the toughest times of their lives. I want them to know they’re not alone.”

Hayes’ route spans more than 20 states and thousands of waterways, with stops in cities and towns to engage local supporters, share stories of families helped by Ronald McDonald House Charities, and highlight the importance of the organization’s mission.
