Property tax abolition campaign advances in Ohio despite reform efforts

CLEVELAND — A grassroots coalition is pressing ahead with efforts to abolish property taxes statewide, dismissing recent legislative attempts at reform as insufficient while collecting signatures for a 2026 ballot measure.

Citizens for Property Tax Reform and the Committee to Abolish Property Taxes in Ohio held a joint press conference in downtown Cleveland on Monday while state lawmakers in Columbus considered overriding Gov. Mike DeWine’s state budget vetoes on property tax relief. House Republicans ultimately overrode just one, banning schools and other local governments from using certain types of property tax levies.
