NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio – An officer at 2 p.m. on July 15 spotted a car driving westbound on I-480 near Stearns Road at 82 mph in a 60-mph zone.
When the officer activated his lights and siren, the driver sped off at approximately 100 mph, according to a police report. The driver avoided other officers trying to assist in the traffic stop by swerving and making “an abrupt and unsafe move.”
Officers terminated the chase due to the excessive speed and waited to confront the vehicle owner at his home in Elyria. The man initially denied he was driving, but when officers didn’t buy his story that he had loaned his car to someone else, he admitted he was driving. He said he didn’t stop because he didn’t have a driver’s license and didn’t want to have to walk home. He said his girlfriend and young cousin were also in the car. The suspect told the officer that he was a good driver, so he was not worried about crashing…
