FOP offers stern warning following police shootings

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – In the past 48 hours, there have been two nearby officer shootings. Two troopers were shot in northeastern Pennsylvania Thursday morning, and two more were shot in Cleveland Thursday night.

The suspect accused of shooting two officers in Cleveland was captured alive Friday morning, while the officers themselves are recovering and in stable condition. Police say they have dealt with the suspect before, which is exactly why the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) is calling for a tougher approach to sentencing for violent crimes.

“The Fraternal Order of Police is going to start holding accountable those who encourage and allow these kinds of crimes against law enforcement. We’re going to call them out,” said T.J. Assion, vice president of the Ohio FOP. “Every time that it does occur and people aren’t held to task, they are not locked up, they are not immediately put away, it creates an atmosphere where other people see it and it gets glorified, and they think that it’s OK for them to do it.”…
