Former Elyria man with 15 prior DUIs charged with felony drunken driving

A former Elyria man already on probation for felony DUI — one of 15 prior drunken driving convictions during his lifetime, according to police and court records — has been charged with another felony DUI following an April arrest by state troopers.

Duran Mims, 45, of Shaker Heights, was indicted Friday in Lorain County Common Pleas Court on two felony DUI charges with specifications and a misdemeanor charge of driving under suspension.

Specifications to Mims’ charges could put him in prison for an additional one to five years, mandatory, if convicted. According to court records, he is free on bond posting $5,000 bond that was set in April in Avon Lake Municipal Court plus another $20,000 cash/surety bond set in Common Pleas Court over alleged probation violations in June…
