CLEVELAND, Ohio – The suspect accused of killing a man and then confronting police officers with a gun has a violent criminal past that includes convictions for robbery, guns and drugs, records show.
A Cuyahoga County grand jury will hear evidence in the case of Sterling Pettway, 49, of Cleveland, who has been charged in the slaying of Deonte Alexander on Wednesday. He was shot minutes later on the city’s West Side after he pointed a gun at an officer, police said.
Court records show Pettway has been convicted of violent crimes and drug offenses dating back to 2007. He was sentenced to three years in prison in 2017 involving a robbery and drugs, and he was convicted of strangulation in 2023…
