Despite perception, youths commit a small portion of Cleveland’s violent deaths, data shows

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The youngest suspected killer was 12. He was charged in a botched robbery of an Amazon driver.

That case and others involving youths garnered headlines in Cleveland for days last year. But over the course of 2024, youths made up a disproportionately small number of people accused of homicide in the city.

Twenty-one of the 132 people charged, or 15%, were under 18, according to data compiled by cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer…
