Cleveland man charged in $500,000 car dealership scam using fake titles

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cleveland man is accused of being part of a group that used faked documents to scam several car dealers, including one in Beachwood, out of more than $500,000.

The group used faked documents to obtain real titles in South Carolina, then carried out deals for several cars and SUVs by sending photos of the vehicles and documents to dealers in Texas, Wisconsin and Beachwood, according to a federal indictment.

The dealers paid for the cars without realizing that the titles were fake. Five of 13 cars were never provided and at least two of the cars were stolen, according to court records…
