For Charles “Wish Bone” Scruggs of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and his wife Mia Scruggs, community is more than a word, it’s a responsibility. Along with Angela Flowers, founder of Making A Difference Consulting, LLC, a fellow Glenville native and nonprofit strategist, they are building Beyond the Wishing Well to restore the neighborhood that raised them.
Beyond the Wishing Well is a new Glenville-based nonprofit focused on helping families gain the tools and resources they need to thrive. The organization’s priorities center on financial literacy, mental health, and youth mentorship. Mia brings over two decades of banking experience to her role leading workshops on credit, budgeting and first-time homeownership, while Flowers, a licensed mental health professional, emphasizes coping skills and community wellness. Together, they see financial knowledge and mental health support as the foundation for long-term stability in the neighborhood.
In the meantime, Beyond the Wishing Well is meeting people where they are with hands on community-centered events. Their recent Back-to-School Book Bag Giveaway, provided 500 students with backpacks filled with supplies, free food and connections to local resources. Planned future initiatives include holiday food baskets, toy drives, and partnerships with local organizations to expand programming.
