Eric Clapton delivers inimitable, blues-heavy set at Rocket Arena

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Eric Clapton may not be God, but Thursday night he put to rest any debate about his place in the rock ’n’ roll pantheon with a blues-heavy show for a packed Rocket Arena crowd.

The 80-year-old, three-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee (Yardbirds, Cream, solo), who over the last six decades performed more than 15 Northeast Ohio dates, turned in a career retrospective heavy on blues covers, with just enough of his classic rock hits to please the decidedly older audience.

As for the aforementioned God reference, that’s naturally the iconic 1960s London photo featuring a dog taking a leak on “Clapton is God” wall graffiti…
