Greater Cleveland providers indicted in $1.6 million Medicaid fraud sweep

CLEVELAND — A statewide crackdown on Medicaid fraud has led to criminal indictments against health care providers in Greater Cleveland who are accused of stealing a combined $1.6 million from the government-funded program.

The charges, filed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, follow investigations by the Ohio attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. The indictments mark the latest round of statewide charges involving Medicaid providers.

The fraud control unit, in a release, says it uncovered a range of schemes, including billing for services not rendered, operating illegally as providers despite felony convictions and submitting claims while patients were hospitalized or even while providers were on vacation…
