Cleveland shooting, strangulation case: Conviction thrown out over judge’s error

CLEVELAND, Ohio – An appellate court Thursday threw out the conviction of a man accused of strangling and shooting at his former girlfriend because of a Cuyahoga County judge’s error.

Daryl Cuyler, 38, of Leavittsburg pleaded guilty in 2023 to felonious assault and strangulation and was sentenced to four years in prison.

A three-judge panel of the 8th Ohio District Court of Appeals, however, found that Common Pleas Judge Steven Gall accepted Cuyler’s plea without properly informing him of the ramifications, records show…
