Lorain man gets 10-to-12 1/2 years in prison for 2020 fatal crash and drug charges

More than five years after he caused a traffic crash that killed an unborn baby, a Lorain man has been ordered to report to prison in January to begin serving a 10-to-12½-year sentence for that crime as well as a felony drug conviction.

Rolland A. Scales, 29, of Oberlin Avenue, pleaded guilty Sept. 23 in Lorain County Common Pleas Court to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide; two counts of vehicular assault; two counts of having weapons under disability; and one count each of failure to comply, failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property, all felonies.

He also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under suspension, negligent assault and reckless operation, according to the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office and court records…
