CLEVLAND — Councilwoman Jasmin Santana made history by becoming the first Latina majority leader in Cleveland City Council history.
“We didn’t have representation for 12, 15 years,” Santana said. “Now, you have someone that sits among 17 members of the body as the only Latina, that represents the Latino community but also in a leadership role … It’s important to have a seat at the table. It’s important to bring those experiences and that cultural relevancy to the body when you’re making legislation decisions.”
