2 Northeast Ohio churches awarded more than $400K in historic preservation grants

CLEVELAND — Two Northeast Ohio churches are receiving major funding to help preserve their historic buildings.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation announced Tuesday that Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Cleveland and the First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland in Shaker Heights will receive a combined $440,000 through the organization’s National Fund for Sacred Places program.

According to the National Trust, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish will receive $175,000 for preservation work focused on the building’s exterior, including masonry, brick and stone repairs, as well as walls and cladding. The First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland will receive $265,000 for similar exterior projects, including work on its steeple and bell tower…
