Car break-ins, big gatherings prompt new police unit in Cleveland: I-Team

CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-Team has found Cleveland police have started a new unit in response to chronic car break-ins, big crowds gathering for car meetups, and business burglaries.

Late last week, a memo went out to officers announcing STANCE (Street And Nuisance Crime Enforcement).

Chief Dorothy Todd wrote, “As we all know, there has been an increase in quality-of-life crimes impacting large portions of our community. In an effort to help combat these crimes and reduce calls for service in our patrol section, I am launching a new initiative…”

The special detail will operate at night 7 days a week. The memo says the detail will not replace “hotspot patrols conducted by frontline officers.”…
