Cleveland use of ShotSpotter technology reliably detects gunfire across the city, but a new study reveals a troubling reality: All that data isn’t actually making anyone safer.
In Monday’s episode of Today in Ohio, hosts dug into the findings of a comprehensive Cleveland State University study that hosts say should have city officials and taxpayers questioning whether the investment is worthwhile.
“The university found that ShotSpotter, it does consistently detect gunfire, and it does get officers to the scene faster,” reported Courtney Astolfi. “But the study also found that this tech, it doesn’t reduce crime, it rarely advances investigations, and it’s straining an already understaffed police force.”…
