Cleveland’s East Mount Zion Church fends of demolition and embraces preservation

CLEVELAND — On Sunday, On Sunday, East Mount Zion Baptist’s congregation had an extra reason to celebrate with the start of their long-awaited roof replacement project.

“It was also the feeling of like, wow, hope does exist. It was a new hope, a historic hope,” said Pastor Brian Cash, describing the feelings he had after learning the church had won a $750,000 dollar grant from the National Parks Service, allowing them to start their roof replacement project, which includes stone and masonry repairs.

This is a stark contrast to the fate the church was facing in 2020…
