Step Forward offers utility help as dangerously cold temperatures hit Cuyahoga County

CLEVELAND — As dangerously cold temperatures fall on Cuyahoga County, Step Forward is urging residents in need to seek assistance with their utility bills through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).

Step Forward helps people in Cuyahoga County pay for their utility bills by working to get clients current on their bills, helping households create payment plans to avoid utility debt, and intervening if residents are at risk of having their utilities shut off.

Eligibility requirements

To qualify, you need to have a gross income at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines. For a family of four, that would be an income at or below $52,500. Residents can show up to the Step Forward office at 2203 Superior Avenue for an appointment Monday through Thursday from 8:00 to noon. There’s also availability through phone appointments on Fridays.
