A look inside Cleveland’s Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument | Leon Bibb: Then and Now

CLEVELAND — From its perch on Public Square, the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument has looked over the heart of downtown Cleveland for more than 130 years. Built in 1894, the towering memorial honors the men of Cuyahoga County who fought for the Union during the American Civil War.

Inside, nearly 9,000 names line the marble walls — each representing a Clevelander who served between 1861 and 1865.
