‘It’s been a ghost town’: Several bars close in Cleveland’s downtown Flats

CLEVELAND — The sudden closure of several bars in Cleveland’s Flats East Bank this week has left many in shock, but some neighboring businesses say the announcements aren’t a surprise.

Brad Vande Velde has worked in the heart of Cleveland’s nightlife for almost a decade. He’s the general manager of The Lakehouse, only a few steps away from nightclubs Rum Runners and Inferno, which permanently closed their doors this week.

The businesses, which are both owned by the Sly Restaurant Group, wrote on social media Wednesday that the decision follows facing “economic pressures currently affecting the hospitality and nightlife industry.”…
