I-Team: Man arrested after police say he shot the family dog

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (WJW) — Video released to the FOX 8 I-Team shows Fairview Park Police arresting a 40-year-old man on a felony charge of animal cruelty after investigators said he shot and killed his pet dog.

James Metz was arrested Monday on a charge of prohibitions concerning companion animals, a cruelty to animals charge also known as Goddard’s Law, named after legendary FOX 8 Meteorologist Dick Goddard.

Metz told police that the dog was aggressive with him and grabbed his arm. Metz said the incident happened in the early morning hours of Dec. 8. He said he put the dog outside and went out a few minutes later.

“She was by the sunroom door, and it was like teeth out, and it was like ready to attack again,” Metz told police. An officer responded with, “And, that’s when you shot?”…
