Tragedy unfolded this week as Dionte Hawthorne Jr., a 24-year-old man wanted for attempted murder by the Brooklyn Police Department, ended his life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred as the U.S. Marshals led the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) attempted to take him into custody at a Cleveland home, as detailed in a press release from the U.S. Marshals.
Earlier that day, officers approached a location in the 6400 block of Scovill Ave., seeking to apprehend Hawthorne in connection with the early morning intrusion and shooting in an apartment on Northridge Oval in Brooklyn, Ohio. The encounter quickly turned dire when officers, having verified Hawthorne’s presence in the home, tried to communicate with him. He responded decisively by firing a gun, prompting the activation of the Cuyahoga County SWAT team.
“This is a difficult conclusion to this case for everyone involved.
