“I wouldn’t go there to dump a body:” So why would anyone want to stay in a hotel there?

A plan to transform historic grain silos on Cleveland’s riverfront into a boutique hotel raises questions about the approach to waterfront development and historic preservation in Cleveland.

The project, which this week secured a $5 million tax credit from the state of Ohio as part of a $62 million development package, would convert the old grain craft silos on the Columbus Peninsula in the Flats into hotel accommodations. The Cleveland Metroparks, which controls the 4.29-acre site, plans to begin construction in 2027.

Today in Ohio podcast host Chris Quinn said he thinks the project will fail for a variety of reasons and suggested that better uses could be found for riverfront property than preserving an ugly grain silo…
