Copper thieves hit streetlights across Cleveland, not just Slavic Village

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Copper thieves plunged part of Slavic Village into darkness by ripping the wires out of streetlights. But it turns out the problem is more widespread.

Cleveland Metroparks confirmed that thieves have pulled the wire from streetlights along the Red Line Greenway on multiple occasions. And officials from Gateway, the organization that owns Rocket Arena and Progressive Field, said they too have seen streetlights put out of commission.

The broader scope of the thefts emerged only after other organizations spoke out. Cleveland Public Power originally didn’t specify any thefts outside of Slavic Village…
