How a ‘lightning bolt from the cosmos’ created one of Ohio’s most magical Christmas displays in Fairview Park

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio – What began in 1985 as a young man’s way to carry on his grandfather’s tradition of making one new Christmas decoration every year has turned a Fairview Park neighborhood into an annual holiday destination.

Bill McVicker and his wife, Diane, transformed the half-mile stretch of Seabury Avenue between 210th Street and 220th Street into a winter wonderland one light – and neighbor — at a time.

At points earlier this decade, McVicker estimates that more than 60 of the 70 houses on the street participated by adding light tunnels and festive decorations. Thousands of people came each year, sipped on free cups of hot chocolate at the Elf Tent and donated to charity – more than $25,000 total has been donated to the Fairview Park Hunger Center, Senior Center and Meals on Wheels program…
