After a three-year manhunt, Javyonne Stewart, the last suspect in a 2021 drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of 13-year-old Maurco Toler, has been arrested, as confirmed by the U.S. Marshals Service. Early this morning, Stewart, 20, was apprehended by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) in Cleveland, according to a press release from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Stewart was wanted for charges including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, improper handling of firearms, and tampering with evidence stemming from the incident that occurred on Zeman Ave. in Euclid, Ohio, Toler suffered fatal gunshot wounds outside a friend’s home back on December 11, 2021, the two other suspects involved in the case Duane Jackson and Leroy Billips, were previously caught and have been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Jackson’s arrest occurred at Benedictine High School by the NOVFTF on January 12, 2022, and Billips surrendered on June 22, 2022.
Around the area, the NOVFTF followed up on numerous leads and prominently featured Stewart as their Fugitive of the Week over the past three years. Their investigation led to Stewart being taken into custody without incident at a residence on the 10500 block of Olivet Ave. in Cleveland, which culminated this long-standing search. U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott commented on the persistence of his team and their commitment to justice, saying, in a statement obtained by the U.S. Marshals Service, “This case has been ongoing for over three years but investigators on our team never gave up that they would find this suspect and bring some peace and justice to the family of Maurco Tolar.”…
