Garfield Heights cop in fatal restraint case was previously sued in excessive force case

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Garfield Heights police officer accused of contributing to a man’s death by pressing on him while he suffered a medical emergency is also accused in a separate lawsuit of using excessive force during an earlier arrest.

Officer Eric Garcia is named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed earlier this year by Anthony Hribar, who alleged Garcia and other officers had body slammed him in 2023.

The officers did not have their body cameras activated at the time of the incident, the lawsuit said…
