Speed believed to be a factor in fatal Maple Heights crash: police

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — One person died and another was hospitalized after a vehicle hit a tree late Saturday night.

According to Maple Heights police, officers responded to Rockside Road near Lee Road South around 11:30 p.m. on reports of a vehicle that had struck a tree.

First responders located two people inside the vehicle who needed to be “mechanically extracted” by members of the Maple Heights Fire Department.

One of the victims was flown to the hospital for treatment. The other victim died at the scene, according to police. Neither victim has been identified at this time.
