Coldest days in Cleveland history: years with most days below zero

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Here is the list of the coldest days in Cleveland history, including the record of 20 degrees below zero on Jan. 19, 1994, and the years in which there were the most days below zero.

These lists were last updated through 2025.

The records go back to 1871. Official readings are from downtown until May 1, 1938, when the weather service began recording its official Cleveland observations from what is now Hopkins International Airport.
