Westlake police recover gun, drugs, thousands in cash during late-night traffic stop

WESTAKE, Ohio – Officers at 11 p.m. on Jan. 24 stopped a car driving without headlights on Sperry Drive.

Officers noted that the car drove over a curb and into the grass after pulling into a parking lot. The driver, a 25-year-old Decatur, Indiana, resident, said that he was driving a rental vehicle and did not realize the headlights were not on.

Officers noticed signs of drug use in the car and investigated further. The man eventually admitted he had a loaded firearm, cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and a large sum of cash in the car. The driver was not allowed to possess a gun due to prior felony convictions, according to a police department press release…
