Richmond Heights police to purchase additional ballistic shields

Richmond Heights Police Department will soon be more equipped as they have just been granted approval by City Council to purchase an additional two “rifle-rated” ballistic shields for officers use.

The two shields will cost the city $11,273 after they are purchased from TYR Tactical with the funding pulled from 2026 appropriations.

Police Chief Calvin Williams told council earlier this month that the shields will be black with a square clear porthole for officers to look through. He added the new shields will be made with a higher grade of material than the ones they currently have, designed for “special threats level three.”…
