They pulled the rug out from under MetroHealth — Now Cuyahoga County can’t pay the bill

The promise was bold. The vision was transformational. The execution? A catastrophe that could break the entire regional mental health system—while the people responsible scramble to cover their tracks.

That’s the sad story at the center of Monday’s episode of Today in Ohio, the news analysis podcast from cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer. Hosts Chris Quinn and Leila Atassi criticized Cuyahoga County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board and the county leaders who sold the region a crisis center they apparently never had the money to fund.

“The very crisis center that Cuyahoga County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board once championed as this crown jewel of the region’s mental health system,” Atassi said. “They now admit they can’t afford it. And the hole is even deeper than anyone thought.”…
