Woman recounts husband allegedly attacking her on birthday hike in Hawaii

HONOLULU (KHON) — For the first time, Arielle Konig came face-to-face with her husband, Gerhardt Konig, in the courtroom, exactly one year after he allegedly attacked her on her birthday.

Gerhardt Konig, an anesthesiologist from Maui, was arrested in March 2025 after police accused him of trying to push his wife off a hiking trail and striking her in the head with a rock. Arielle Konig was taken to the hospital in critical condition after two women reportedly witnessed the attack, helped scare off Gerhardt, and walked Arielle off the trail.

Hours later, police took Gerhardt into custody following a brief foot chase, Nexstar’s KHON reported. He has pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted murder and has been held without bail ever since.
