‘Holy cow’: Downed tree splits upstairs of North Olmsted home in half

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (WJW) – The powerful winds left their mark in many Northeast Ohio cities on Tuesday, including many in Cuyahoga County.

In North Olmsted on Defoe Drive, Gary Burkey and his wife were watching FOX 8 meteorologists when they heard a “boom” next door.

“It was very loud. We heard it hitting windows, side of the house downstairs,” Burkey said.

He called the neighbors, who luckily were not home as the massive tree split the upstairs of Jim Miles’ mother-in-law’s house in two.

“I was like, ‘holy cow, it’s through the house,’” Miles said. “Huge tree fell in the backyard, crushed the house, her bedroom, everything. Fortunately she was not here at the time.”…
