‘I wish every day I can bring her back’: Families sue Cuyahoga County sheriff, deputies over deadly chases

CLEVELAND — The families of two innocent bystanders who were killed in separate police chases are suing Cuyahoga County Sheriff Harold Pretel and the deputies involved.

“Every person that has been listed in that lawsuit failed to meet the standard, failed to do their duty,” Stanley Jackson, the attorney representing the families in civil lawsuits, said. “And because of that, these two women lost their lives in the most tragic way.”

Tamya Westmoreland and Sharday Elder were killed in crashes that ended two chases initiated by Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s deputies, less than six months apart. Both were innocent bystanders…
