(COLORADO SPRINGS) — As officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) were investigating a two-vehicle crash on I-25, near South Nevada Avenue, a police cruiser with flashing lights was hit by another car as it was passing the scene, according to CSPD.
CSPD reported that at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, officers responded to the crash on southbound I-25, north of exit 140, which was obstructing the right shoulder and right lane of the interstate. A marked police cruiser with emergency lights activated was blocking the middle and right lanes as a safety buffer and to make space for the arrival of a tow truck.
According to CSPD, a Hyundai Elantra was going southbound in the middle lane, approaching the crash scene, when it failed to change lanes into the open left lane and hit the cruiser. The front-right side of the Hyundai hit the front-left corner of the police cruiser, causing severe damage to both vehicles, but neither was rendered inoperable.
