Police cruiser hit by car at crash scene on I-25: CSPD

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — As officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) were investigating a two-vehicle crash on I-25, near South Nevada Avenue, a police cruiser with flashing lights was hit by another car as it was passing the scene, according to CSPD.

CSPD reported that at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, officers responded to the crash on southbound I-25, north of exit 140, which was obstructing the right shoulder and right lane of the interstate. A marked police cruiser with emergency lights activated was blocking the middle and right lanes as a safety buffer and to make space for the arrival of a tow truck.

According to CSPD, a Hyundai Elantra was going southbound in the middle lane, approaching the crash scene, when it failed to change lanes into the open left lane and hit the cruiser. The front-right side of the Hyundai hit the front-left corner of the police cruiser, causing severe damage to both vehicles, but neither was rendered inoperable. Fortunately, the police cruiser was unoccupied, and no one was injured in the crash…
