Colorado and Alabama have been fighting for the U.S. military base for space missions. But political games have made the issue about far more than national security. Aside from the bragging rights of housing another combatant command (Colorado Springs is already the home to NorthCom), Space Command could bring the region a long term economic boost of over $1 billion, as well as attract and keep more companies interested in space national security. Colorado already has a strong aerospace sector. Space Command has the potential to boost it even further, and help insulate it from downturns.
