Colorado man sentenced for role in Jan. 6 riot

A Colorado Springs man who pleaded guilty to participating in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and to personally coming into physical confrontation with Capitol Police was sentenced to prison Tuesday.

Jonathan David Grace, 49, was sentenced to 24 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $5,000 in fines and $2,000 in restitution by U.S. District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton. In October, Grace pleaded guilty to a felony charge of assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers.

According to court documents regarding the plea agreement, Grace could have been given up to 30 months in prison and fined up to $95,000 by the judge.

The FBI arrested Grace on March 30, 2023, in Colorado.

Previous reporting from The Gazette details that Grace joined a mob of rioters who were pushing back against a line of officers in the Lower West Terrace and tunnel areas of the Capitol, according to the release. At the end of the tunnel were two sets of doors that opened directly into the Capitol.
