Officers and deputies involved in Security-Widefield shooting identified

(SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo.) — The deputies and officers involved in an overnight shooting in Security-Widefield on Jan. 27 have been identified by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO).

Deputies with EPSO and officers with the Fountain Police Department (FPD) originally responded to a report from an EPSO deputy that a man was walking south on Security Boulevard with a gun around 12:38 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Law enforcement responded and found the suspect near the intersection of Security Boulevard and Crawford Avenue in Security-Widefield, just east of U.S. 85/87.

Deputies and officers gave the suspect commands to drop the gun, but the suspect ignored them, CSPD said. The suspect then allegedly pointed the gun at law enforcement, and EPSO deputies and FPD officers fired at least one round at the suspect. Lifesaving medical aid was provided to the suspect, but he later died at the hospital.
