CSPD chases armed robbery suspect spotted in stolen truck

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested a man for an alleged armed robbery at a convenience store, who later tried to drive away from officers in a stolen truck.

On Friday, Feb. 2 just before 10:40 p.m., CSPD responded to the convenience store, located in the 5300 block of Airport Road, to investigate an armed robbery where a man reportedly entered the store and showed a handgun before he demanded money from the clerk and left with an undisclosed amount of cash in a dark colored truck.

Just before 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, CSPD spotted the truck from the robbery in the 4300 block of Airport Road. When officers attempted to stop the driver, later identified as 23-year-old Kristoval Diaz, police said he failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

Diaz was eventually stopped in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue after officers used a PIT maneuver and later learned that the truck Diaz was in, was stolen.

According to CSPD, Diaz was identified as the suspect from the earlier convenience store robbery and was arrested on several charges including; Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, and DUI.
