16 inches of snow possible, upslope storm coming: Whiteout daily snow report, March 5

New storm system enters Colorado after two more days of light snow showers in the northern and west-central mountains. Friday could be a powder day, but also a lot of snow accumulating south of Colorado Springs and into the mountains west of Pueblo and Walsenburg.

On Monday, more snow fell throughout the day through sunset in the northern and central mountains. Additional accumulations of between 4-10 inches were recorded in the northern and central mountains, and between 1-6 inches in the southern mountains. Temperatures rebounded around the state toward freezing or above Monday; Aspen Mountain’s base area hit a high of 37 degrees.

Forecast:

On Thursday afternoon a more organized storm is forecast to track south of Colorado, breaking off waves of energy and pushing moisture northeastward from the Four Corners region.

The ECMWF high resolution model forecasts for Friday morning’s first chairs anywhere between 6-16 inches of snow for the west-central mountains, 4-10 inches in the Elkhead and Flattops, and 2-8 inches in the San Juan mountains with the northern San Juans receiving higher amounts.
