‘State of the Air’ report reveals problems in Colorado’s major cities

The American Lung Association has released its 2024 ‘State of the Air’ report, revealing that several Colorado cities have big problems when it comes to ozone and pollution.

Denver predictably had the worst air, ranking 6th-worst for number of high ozone days throughout the year out of 228 metropolitan areas, 20th-worst among 223 metropolitan areas when it came to 24-hour particle pollution, and 54th-worst among 204 metropolitan areas when it came to annual particle pollution.

Fort Collins and Colorado Springs also ranked poorly when it came to the number of high-ozone days, with Fort Collins ranking 16th of the 228 metropolitans included in the ranking for the metric and Colorado Springs ranking 20th. Neither of those cities, however, ranked in the top 25 when it came to 24-hour particle pollution or annual particle pollution.
